Development Team

The development team made up of Innocademy students and faciliated by Protege Game Studios used Human Centered Design principles to create unique game designes incorporating wearable technology in the classroom. Part of their students requirements was to develop a game design document including creating an electronic wearable device that could also be used in the game. Each of the students contributed to the project giving very interesting insights and ideas to the finalized game design.

Wearable Technology

Wearable Technology

The team experimented and developed wearable electornic devices using the Adafruit gemma chip that included a LED disc array to add a programmable colorful interface. The team had to learn how to strip wire, solder, and program their chips.

Programming

Programming

Project wearable students learned how to:

  1. Learn and use an IDE editor, adding coding libraries and compiling code.
  2. Adrino coding language using it to program the Gemma chip and control the LED interface.
  3. Testing and debugging code
Role Playing

Role Playing Game

Students had to apply a series of investigative practices that included a process of Discovery, Design, and Delivery. Using HCD practices, students learned how to construct a role playing game that integrated wearable technology into the classroom.

Kendall Field Trip

Kendall Field Trip

Project students were invited to Kendall College Art and Design of Grand Rapids for a field trip to co-work with Kendall's wearable project students and then a tour of their fabulous facilities.

Presentation

Presentation

With the project complete now it was time for the students to present their work with Kendall College students to parents and faculty. Protege students presented their work including showing the audience their impressive wearable devices they created themselves - very impressive!
